THE ASSOCIATION OF PROGRESSIVE MUSLIMS OF CANADA'S SCHOLARSHIP FUND AT TRENT UNIVERSITY
FIRST SCHOLARSHIP GRANTED TO AMY STROTHARD IN 2021 In
his words: “Amy is an ideal first recipient. She has proven to
be one of the stars of our program in recent years and it is great to be
able to recognize some of her success with this award. As you know, the
award is designed to recognize excellent academic standing by requiring
the recipient to have a minimum average of 80%. Amy has exceeded
this standard by an impressive margin.” The
award is also to recognize the best essay or project submission
reflecting the importance of promoting peace, justice, understanding, or
equality. Amy’s paper, “Decriminalizing Prostitution: A Liberal
Feminist Approach”, was selected as the best submission by our prize
committee. Letter from Amy Strothard: Association of Progressive Muslims of Canada Scholarship Fund Dear Donors, Thank you so much for your donation! I greatly appreciate the recognition and financial aid you’ve provided. I’ve just completed my honours undergraduate degree in Psychology and Philosophy at Trent. I’m now taking a year off school to work and study for the LSAT, and to hopefully attend law school in fall 2022. This scholarship will help tremendously with the fees associated with the application process (which are steeper and more numerous than I had anticipated!). Thank you again for your generosity! Best Amy Strothard ***************************************** ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP The
Scholarship Fund was officially in place at Trent University
since July 2018. The scholarship
is open to domestic undergraduate students of all faiths and cultures and
will be merit based (80 percent and above). Scholarships of $25,000 pay
out $1000 per annum to the recipient. Scholarship recipients are
asked to write a letter to the scholarship donor thanking them for the
scholarship and telling them a little bit about themselves and how the
money will assist them in their studies. Trent University has the
distinction of being the #1 undergraduate university in Ontario (Maclean's
Rankings) and #3 in Canada (Maclean’s Rankings) and it has
been a special place for students for over 50 years now. People say you reward what
you value and since the APMC was founded, its members have worked hard
to prepare young people to get involved in all aspects of Canadian
life by participating and fulfilling civic duties and obligations at
the municipal, provincial and federal levels. The future leaders of our
country and our world are those young people who are in Trent
University classrooms today. The Honorable Maryam Monsef,
Minister of Status of Women; the Honorable John Horgan, Premier of
British Columbia; Jennifer May Alice Loten, Ambassador to the
Organization of American States; the Honorable Laurie Peters, High
Commissioner of Canada to Jamaica; Dr. James Orbinski, Doctors Without
Borders; Yan Martell, writer and author of Life of Pi; Don Tapscott,
author and business leader; and Mani Haghighi, Iranian filmmaker are
all Trent University Graduates. All donation towards the
Association of Progressive Muslims of Canada Scholarship Fund are greatly appreciated and will make a difference. Donor Recognition Any donations of $5000 or
more will be recognized on the donor wall in the new Trent University
Student Centre.
