EID CELEBRATIONS AT QUEEN'S PARK 1999 - 2002

2ND ANNUAL EID-UL-ADHA DINNER AT QUEEN’S PARK APRIL 9, 1999

The 1st Eid Celebrations at Queen’s Park were organized by Mobeen Khaja in 1998.  At the 2nd annual celebrations, Premier Mike Harris, Hon. Roy McMurtry, Chief Justice of Ontario,  several Ontario Cabinet Ministers, Members of Federal and Provincial Parliaments, Members of the Diplomatic Corps, and many other dignitaries attended.  

His Excellency, Dr. Mohammed R. Al-Husseini, Ambassador for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, was the Keynote Speaker.

3RD ANNUAL EID-UL-FITR DINNER - JANUARY 14, 2000

His Excellency, Rafat Mahdi, High Commissioner for Pakistan, was the Keynote Speaker.  Hon. Senator Marcel Prud’homme, P.C., was honoured with an award for his Vision, Friendship and ongoing support for the Muslim community.  Mervin Witter, Director Canadian Human Rights Commission, and Superintendent John Hamilton of the Durham Regional Police Service, were the other award recipients.

4TH ANNUAL EID-UL-FITR DINNER - JANUARY 5, 2001

Mr. Firoz Rasul, National President for His Highness Prince Aga Khan Shia Imami Ismaili Council, was the Keynote Speaker.  

The Fitr Award was presented to Mr. Haroon Siddiqui, Editorial Page Editor Emeritus, Toronto Star, for his “Outstanding work on National and International matters and courageous stand on Islamic issues”.

5TH ANNUAL EID-UL-FITR DINNER - DECEMBER 21, 2001

His Excellency, Dr. Mohammad A. Mousavi, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, was the Keynote Speaker.  

The Toronto Star, the largest daily newspaper in Canada, was the recipient of the Fitr Award for its “Fair and balanced reporting on National and International issues, and for its vigilance against racism, for its constant advocacy of Fairness & Equality, and for being the real voice for all Canadians”.  Publisher, John A. Honderich received the award on behalf of the paper.

6TH ANNUAL EID-UL-FITR CELEBRATIONS - DECEMBER 13, 2002

Honourable R. Roy McMurtry, the Chief Justice of Ontario, was the Keynote Speaker and Award Recipient.  He was recognized for  "HIS DISTINGUISHED CAREER IN PUBLIC SERVICE WITH EXCEPTIONAL DEDICATION TO JUSTICE AND EQUALITY FOR ALL CANADIANS, HIS COURAGEOUS STAND ON HUMAN RIGHTS ISSUES, AND HIS UNDERSTANDING AND FRIENDSHIP FOR MUSLIMS, PARTICULARLY CANADIAN MUSLIMS."

The Honourable Bill Davis, former Premier of Ontario, came to personally congratulate the Chief Justice.  Many lawyers attended this event, including Honourable Charles Dubin, former Chief Justice of Ontario and Honourable Lauren Marshall, Regional Senior Justice of the Ontario Court of Justice.
