22ND ANNUAL QUEEN'S PARK RECEPTION FOR MPPS - MARCH 22, 2018 This year, because of the upcoming provincial elections in June, APMC decided to hold the reception for MPPs now. It was held in Rooms 228 and 230, 2nd Floor of the Main Legislative building. Members of the Provincial Parliament attended this lunch reception which was held from 11:30 A.M till 1:30 P.M. Mobeen Khaja, President of APMC welcomed everyone and wished Happy Nuroze to all those celebrating this festival which marks the beginning of spring. He explained that APMC decided to hold the reception now instead of June. He mentioned the upcoming visit to the Vatican to meet and thank the Pope for his message of peace and harmony to the people of the world and for always defending the oppressed and vulnerable people. He also congratulated APMC's Director, Dr. Dilkhush Panjawai for receiving the Order of Ontario and mentioned that Dr. Najmul Siddiqui had received it 2 years ago and he himself had received it 7 years ago. Ms. Yumna Siddiqi, APMC's Secretary General also said that a few words about the upcoming Ramadan in May and June and about the outreach work the Association is doing to get youth more involved and that this annual reception is to celebrate the ongoing civic engagement of Muslims who now make up 3.2% of the population. She also mentioned all the upcoming events and invited everyone to participate. This year, we were delighted to have several employees from TD Bank, one of our sponsors for many years, attend the reception. Hon. Yasir Naqvi, Attorney General of Ontario also welcomed the guests. Hon. Reza Moridi , Minister of Research, Innovation and Science, brought greetings from the Premier and Caucus. Hon. Michael Chan, Indira-Naidoo, Del Duca, tracy MacCharles, Dr. Helena Jaczek were some of the Ministers who attended along with several MPPs. Dr. Ken Ng, Chairman of the Taste of Asia Festival spoke passionately about the partnership with APMC. Consuls General, Mr. Erdeniz Sen of Turkey, Mr. U.L.M. Jauhar of Sri Lanka, Mr. Hadi Prambrastoro of Indonesia, and Ms. Jeanne Geers from Political Affairs, United States, Mr. Bimo Ariawan from the Indonesian Consulate and Mr. Rafiq Al-Gailani from the UAE Consulate represented the Diplomatic Corps. Retired Chief Armand La Barge was the Master of Ceremonies.
