TWENTIETH ANNUAL EID-UL-ADHA EID CELEBRATIONS AT PARLIAMENT HILL ON OCTOBER 7, 2014

The celebrations were held in the Library and Archives building situated on Wellington Street.  It was a memorable event with Goldy Hyder, CEO and President of Hill + Knowlton as the Keynote Speaker and Award Recipient for this year. Retired Chief Armand La Barge was the Master of Ceremonies.

Many Members of Parliament attended although there was a vote in the House and they had to leave before dinner.  Mr. Tom Mulcair, Opposition Leader and Mr. Justin Trudeau, Leader of the Liberal Party attended and brought greetings from their parties.  Mr. Barry Devolin, MPP and Deputy Speaker of the House attended from the Government side.  Senators Dan Meredith and Victor Oh also attended.

Ambassadors Pisan Manawaut of Thailand and Selchuk Unal of Turkey attended with many members from the Diplomatic Corps. To name a few more, Mr. Richard Sanders, Deputy Head of Mission, USA, Mr. Abrar Hashmi, Charge d'Affaires for Pakistan, attended with their wives.

Many had tears in their eyes when Mr. Vickers, Sergeant at Arms, introduced Goldy Hyder and spoke about the difficulties he faced when growing up because of his ethnic background.  Mr. Vickers presented Goldy with the flag from the Peace Tower, a big honor for the recipient.

Goldy Hyder gave an inspirational speech and received a standing ovation for it.  Click here if you would like to read his speech.

A beautiful plaque and Sandulak's polar bear were presented to Goldy Hyder.  The inscription on the plaque was as follows:  'In recognition of his remarkable achievements as a business executive and his passionate dedication to volunteerism.'
