WELCOME

Welcome to our website.

The Association of Progressive Muslims of Canada and Ontario  is a federally and provincially incorporated non-profit organization with its Head Office in Ottawa.  It was incorporated provincially in 1998 and federally on June 18, 2002.  By the Grace of God, since its inception, the Association has actively pursued its mandate of building bridges of understanding between Muslims and other faith groups, Federal, Provincial and Municipal governments, security services, NGOs and various communities.

As Islam is a progressive religion for all times and all places, the Association projects Islam's values through various social, cultural and educational activities such as the  celebration of Eid at Parliament Hill and Queen's Park.  Eid was also celebrated for  five  years at the Toronto City Hall from 2006 till 2010.  Since 2011, Iftar Dinners are being held at the Ottawa City Hall.

Canada Day is a celebration of being Canadian by recognizing the contributions of Canadians from all faiths and backgrounds, as well as those of organizations.  Since 2016, APMC has been hosting a Citizenship Ceremony for new Canadians.  After the ceremony, about 24 new Canadians are invited to join in the celebrations and the dinner.

Since 2004, our Association is partnering with the Federation of Chinese Canadians of Markham and the City of Markham for the Taste of Asia Festival, the largest Asian festival in Canada.  It is held on the last weekend of June, very close to our Canada Day Celebrations. It is open to all and was attended by 200,000 people in 2019.

APMC established a Scholarship Fund at Trent University in July 2018. The Association has raised $26,500.00 that was needed.  The Association of Progressive Muslims of Canada Scholarship will be open to domestic undergraduate students of all faiths and cultures and will be merit based (80 percent and above). The funds will be held in perpetuity and the scholarship will be paid out using the interest earned on the principal. The first scholarship was given in 2021.

The Association of Progressive Muslims of Canada is open to all Muslims who are Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents, over the age of 18, living in Canada.

We have told our story through photos and text in this website.  We give awards at our Eid and Canada Day Celebrations. You can see a synopsis of our award recipients at a glance and get details on any one you are interested in. I hope you will enjoy your visit.
