CANADA DAY CELEBRATIONS & MUSLIM HERITAGE AWARDS NIGHT

The 1st Canada Day Celebrations were organized in 1999 in a unique way.  This popular  event begins with a dinner around 8:30 p.m. on June 30th followed by the Awards Ceremony.  Awards are given to acknowledge the contributions and achievements of Muslims as well as organizations and individuals of other faiths.

At 12:00 a.m. on July 1st, Canada Day is celebrated with the singing of the National Anthem and cutting cakes.  All present are the first ones in the country to celebrate our National Day.

NOTABLE ATTENDEES: Mayors and Councilors, Members of the Diplomatic Corps, Federal and Provincial Members of Parliament, and several other dignitaries.  Former  Minister Janet Ecker (Ontario government) and Hon. Dan McTeague, M.P.(Parliamentary Secretary Foreign Affairs) have attended  these events and were also the recipients of awards in 1999 for their friendship and understanding of the Muslim community.

The 1st and 2nd celebrations  were held at the H.M.S. Banquet Hall in the Ajax Community Centre, in 1999 and 2000. Also the 4th and 5th in 2002 and 2003, and the 7th in 2005.

The 3rd celebration was held at the Rotunda, Scarborough Civic Centre in 2001.

The 6th celebration was held at the Ramada Hotel (Don Valley and 401) in 2004

The 8th and 9th celebrations were held at the Taj Banquet Hall in 2006 and 2007

The 10th Canada Day celebrations were held in Room 200.
